Ruth Whippman is a British writer, journalist and documentary filmmaker living in the United States. Her humorous essays, cultural commentary and journalism appear in the New York Times, Time magazine, the Guardian, The Independent and The Huffington Post amongst other places. The Sunday Times described Ruth as a "whip-sharp British Bill Bryson." Her first book, The Pursuit of Happiness and Why It's Making Us Anxious (American title: America the Anxious- How Our Pursuit of Happiness is Creating A Nation of Nervous Wrecks) was a New York Post Best Book of 2016, a New York Times Editors' Choice, a Daily Mail Must Read and a Sunday Times Top Summer Read. She is a regular contributor and interviewee on radio and podcasts and has produced and directed many acclaimed television documentaries for the BBC, including for several BAFTA award-winning series. She lives in California with her husband and three sons.
